The Farmhouse Bedroom

Welcome to the Farmhouse Bedroom! I am continuing to add more rooms to my Girl of the Year (GOTY) dollhouse and am excited to share the latest. In my post The Dollhouse Beach Room, I mentioned that I am running out of dollhouse space and I am beginning to combine GOTY dolls that have similar hobbies. This room was designed with GOTY’s Nicki (2007) and Blaire (2019) in mind.

The modern rooms I have been working on are more of “flex” rooms that I can use for multiple dolls including the Truly Me’s. They make a wonderful backdrop for photography and are a great way to display my modern furniture. Not only will this room display Nicki but it will also showcase the Flower Armoire and Flower Trundle Bed that was available from 2002-2004. I love this set and now have a way to keep it out of storage and on display.

I decided to use the Flower Armoire’s color palette when choosing the rooms wall paper. When I saw this floral paper at a boutique stationary store I thought it was a perfect compliment to the cornflower blue pulls on the armoire. The bright yellow flowers add a touch of cheeriness to the walls. To break up the pattern, I used white beadboard on the lower half of the walls and capped it off with trim. The bedding is the American Girl Floral Bedding from the early 2000s. I found the bee pillow at the dollar store and thought it worked perfectly with the color scheme and is a great representation of Blaire.

The base cabinet for my dollhouse is a Pax closet frame from IKEA. This room is 30″ wide x 29″ tall x 22.5″ deep. The room is next door to Luciana’s Room. Luciana’s space is wider (at 36″) and displays the Star Armoire, Trundle Bed and Nightstand (available from 2000-2003). I have a little space left in this Pax and will be adding a small room for GOTY Gabriela in the future.

Since the furniture takes up the majority of the room, I didn’t need a lot of accessories. For the wall art I chose pictures of a pig and sheep and added them to navy blue frames. If you have read Nicki’s books you will remember that she grew up on a pig farm and Blaire has a pig and lamb as part of her collection so it just seemed to work! I added a peg shelf (made by hubs) to add little pieces from both dolls collections and the AG stable (since Nicki is a horse girlie).

On the opposite wall I hung Blaire’s gardening hat and lined up a couple of Truly Me boots. I added a hook and will use it to swap out different accessories depending on who is being displayed. For the flooring I used a peel-and-stick faux hardwood. I found a woven jute placemat that works well as a rug. I don’t have many of Nicki or Blaire’s outfits so I am using the armoire to store clothing of multiple GOTY’s.

One of my favorite large sets is Blaire’s Family Farm Restaurant. I display this set above the Truly Me dollhouse and most likely will continue to keep Blaire on display there. But I love having the Farmhouse Bedroom as a place to photograph her and store some of her accessories.

Overall I am really happy with how this room turned out and am looking forward to future photoshoots. My GOTY dollhouse consists of thirteen rooms with seven rooms completed so far.
