Welcome to the Beach Room! I created this room for Joss, Kanani and Kailey to share. Years ago I started creating rooms in my dollhouse for each of the Girls of the Year (GOTY). I had planned on creating them for all dolls that do not have “big ticket” sets. (Example: Lea has a large Rainforest Hut that I display her in therefore she doesn’t need a room and so on.) As the years have ticked on and more GOTY’s are released I have found that I no longer have the space to continuously add more rooms. I plan on making several rooms that will work with multiple GOTY’s. Also, I prefer the historical doll collections and would rather use my dollhouse space for their rooms over the GOTY’s, that’s just my personal preference.
When creating historical rooms, I like to focus on the details and try to be as historically accurate as I can. The new modern rooms I have been working on are more flexible, less detailed. For me they are a backdrop for photography and a great way to display my modern furniture. This room is on the small side at just 28″ wide. The base cabinet is a Pax closet frame from IKEA. The two rooms above this one are Z Yang’s Studio and The Little Bitty Nursery.
I added a couple of hooks to the wall to hang accessories from each of three dolls’ collections. They also help to tie in more of the colors on this side of the room. For art work I found a great picture of a VW van that reminded me of Joss’ and on the opposite wall I used a picture of colorful surfboards. I purposely did not add any art above the dresser because depending on the angle of my photoshoot, I wanted to be able to switch the surfboard a dresser.
