Kevin Goes Home… Alone

December 5, 2019December 5, 2019 / DandridgeHouseDolls / 4 Comments

My all time favorite Christmas movie has been and always will be Home Alone. I love the setting, the characters, the music but most of all the Georgian-style Colonial house. The Home Alone house has been my dream home all my life. I adore the way it oozes a classic, idyllic Christmas in a … Continue reading Kevin Goes Home… Alone

Lunch With Almanzo Wilder

July 17, 2019August 7, 2019 / DandridgeHouseDolls / 10 Comments

Almanzo Wilder was the husband of author Laura Ingalls Wilder. His character was played by actor Dean Butler in the TV series Little House on the Prairie. I have always wanted to meet all of the cast members of the show but Dean Butler and Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson) were my favorites. I was … Continue reading Lunch With Almanzo Wilder

The Real Ruthie

May 29, 2019August 7, 2019 / DandridgeHouseDolls / 8 Comments

Have you ever wondered what happens when an American Girl character grows up?  If she were a real person what would she be like as an adult? Well, if Ruthie was a real person, she would be my grandma. In the American Girl books Ruthie Smithens is Kit Kitteredge's best friend. Kit is the … Continue reading The Real Ruthie

John-Boy Meets The Walton’s

May 2, 2019August 7, 2019 / DandridgeHouseDolls / 8 Comments

I finally met the Walton's! I have always loved The Walton's TV series. I can never decide between it or Little House on the Prairie as to which is my favorite. I grew up watching re-runs of both and thanks to daytime television, my kiddos and I usually enjoy an episode after we finish … Continue reading John-Boy Meets The Walton’s

Today we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! This past summer I was able to visit Atlanta, GA and take in all of the MLK sites. Last week I posted about his childhood home and Ebenezer Baptist Church where he pastored and his funeral was held. To read about his early years please … Continue reading Melody and Martin Luther King, Jr. Part 2

Happy Birthday Dr. King! This past summer, I had the pleasure of visiting Auburn Street in Atlanta, Georgia. I took Melody with me and thought it would be nice to save this post to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday! Auburn Street is the area where Martin grew up. His home and the church … Continue reading Melody and Martin Luther King, Jr. Part 1

Felicity at Daniel Boone’s Home

October 16, 2018December 25, 2019 / DandridgeHouseDolls / Leave a comment

If I could choose another time in history to live, I would pick the 1700s through the Regency period. As a child, Felicity’s colonial collection fascinated me and as an adult, I always have my nose in a Jane Austen book. Living in the Midwest, I don’t get to enjoy colonial historical sites … Continue reading Felicity at Daniel Boone’s Home

Josefina on the Santa Fe Trail

September 11, 2018September 11, 2018 / DandridgeHouseDolls / 1 Comment

Josefina Montoya is a wonderful addition to the American Girl collection. Her book series is set in 1824 New Mexico. In the stories, Josefina lives on a rancho 15 miles from Santa Fe. I live in the middle of the country so I don’t get to visit very many early Spanish-American historic sites. When I … Continue reading Josefina on the Santa Fe Trail

Kaya Visits Cahokia Mounds

August 14, 2018April 18, 2019 / DandridgeHouseDolls / 4 Comments

When I think of Native Americans, I tend to picture wandering hunters and warriors, living in temporary movable teepees. This is not the case with the Mississippian Indians. They weren’t nomads, but farmers. Not only did they live in structured homes and work their land, but they had thriving sophisticated cities. The largest and greatest … Continue reading Kaya Visits Cahokia Mounds
