Welcome to the dollhouse Rec Room! With seven boy dolls living here at Dandridge House they needed their own space and they are finally getting one! Here they can hang out, have snacks and play video games!
When the Xbox gaming set came out in 2020 my wheels started turning and my thoughts went to a boy basement hangout. I decided to get started on it earlier this year and ordered the now retired Xbox set off eBay. I also purchased an extra gaming chair for under $12. A lot of my inspiration came from my own sons and their spaces. I have always tried to design their rooms with a theme in mind like basketball or music depending on that boy’s personality, but their other items slowly would creep in until it was just full of their gear and toys. That is how I wanted this space to look, lived in.
The Rec Room is directly under Courtney’s Totally Rad Bedroom and is 25” tall, 22.5” deep and 39” wide. It is the middle “floor” in an IKEA Pax frame. I decided on a baseball theme for the décor (since hubs is a fanatic) and sometimes teases that he doesn’t know which he loves more, me or the game.😆 I chose a forest green vinyl for the top portion of the walls and next laid the faux hardwood vinyl floor. Hubs created board and batten wall panels with pine. I wanted to keep the natural wood color for this room for a more masculine feel. (To see a room with painted board and batten check out Ella’s Bedroom.)
I used the retired Music and Movies Entertainment Set for the TV and stand. I have had this set for years with no where to put it and it finally found a home! I covered the baskets and doors with the vinyl I used on the walls to make it less girly and to help it coordinate with the room. All of the screens that came with the set didn’t really go with the Xbox/gamer idea, so I made a Minecraft screen for the TV. That game was always a favorite with my boys! A hockey stick, skates and skateboard sit in the corner. My boys always had shoes of every kind all over the house!
I really put the AG Softball Uniform set to use in this room. I laid the ball and glove on the shelf, hung the hat on a peg and framed the jersey in a shadowbox. Also on the shelf are elbow pads from the All Star Hockey Set and the race number from the USA Track and Field Set.
Next came the drop zone. Every boy space needs a place for their gear! I added two hooks for backpacks and a crate for sports equipment. The volleyball, soccer ball and cleats are from some of the AG Olympic sets and the bat is more of the Softball Uniform set.
I hope you have enjoyed the newest room in the dollhouse, the boy dolls certainly will! I’m sure there will be lots of girl dolls in the space as well! Until next time, Happy Collecting!❤️
