Welcome to Z’s Studio! I have wanted to create this room for quite some time. I purchased Z and a few of her outfits while she was available from AG but found her Desk Set locally a few years ago, minus the chair. It took a few years to track down the chair but my set is finally complete and it was time to give Z the studio she deserves!

In February 2017, American Girl released the first line of contemporary characters that were not part of the Girl of the Year (GOTY) line. These characters had books and collections based off their interests. The dolls that were released were Tenney Grant, Logan Everett and Z Yang. Z (short for Suzanne) is a Korean-American girl and lives in Seattle, Washington. Her interest are photography, film-making and stop-motion videos using her American Girl dolls. Her Dalmatian is named Popcorn (after her favorite snack) and stars is a lot of her movies. Z and her collection were retired in 2018.
The number of rooms in my dollhouse has grown a lot in the last year and space is at a premium. I am giving the majority of my modern dolls smaller rooms as the historical dolls get the largest real estate.😉 My day job is in its slow season which means I get more creating and blogging time! It’s gonna be a great summer!

Z’s room is 29″ tall, 28″ wide and 22″ deep. The Desk Set is the largest piece in her collection and I wanted it to be the main focus. The upper cabinet is filled with accessories from Z’s collection and I store her outfits in the bottom. I added a floor shelf for larger accessory storage and placed AG Truly Me mini dolls on it since Z loves making YouTube videos with her dolls. (Maybe that’s why I like her character so much!😉) The walls have black framed photos of old cameras that pop off the splatter paint wallpaper.

In Z’s book she has a “Brainstorm Board” in her room to keep track of all her filming ideas. I created my version of this with a deep-set photo frame. I took a picture of a camera lens and pasted it to the back using ModPodge. With a little twine and some doll-sized clothespins, Z has a brain board for her space.

Z’s desk is such a neat piece because the desk folds up into the cabinet for storage. Z’s collection also includes a photography backdrop and light that all fits very neatly behind the desk door when open, but when Z is creating a movie, they can be easily accessed. One side of the photography backdrop is a view of Seattle and the other side is a green screen.

I hope you have enjoyed Z’s collection and little studio! She can’t wait to spend her summer making videos! 😊 To see more of my modern dollhouse rooms, check out these posts! The Little Bitty Nursery, The Coffee Shop, The Boys Rec Room, and Luciana’s Room.
