The Little Bitty Nursery

The Little Bitty Nursery

Welcome to the Nursery! With all of the tiny babies that have been released in the Truly Me line, I decided the dollhouse needed a nursery! So let’s check out this sweet little bitty room!

In 2021 a new addition was added to the Truly Me line as the Caring for Baby Set was released with an adorable 8-inch baby, high chair, doll sized Guide to Babysitting book and accessories. This baby is perfectly sized to be the tiny sibling or a baby sitting charge for an American Girl doll. In 2022 the set released again with a darker skinned baby as a second option and Baby Blix was released as part of Girl of the Year Corinne’s collection. 2023 brought us a crib and double stroller along with the ability to now purchase the Little Bitty Baby separately without a highchair for a more affordable price. With a blonde baby set to release later this year it looks as if these adorable babies will be around for awhile and I couldn’t be more pleased!

In 2005 American Girl released two 8-inch babies, one as Polly (Felicity’s baby sister) and the other set named Baby and Stroller Set. The babies were the same doll just dressed differently depending on the set. They had cloth bodies and vinyl limbs unlike the newer versions that are all vinyl and poseable.

As many of you know I have a lot of doll house rooms in my doll space and when we moved in 2022 it took a bit of planning to fit everything into the new space. Once everything found a home, I was able to add two new IKEA Pax frames to the room to create an additional 8 doll house rooms! These frames are being used differently than I normally use this size Pax so the ceiling height is shorter than I prefer (my preference is 25″ and higher). I started with a 93″ IKEA Pax standing vertical and added three shelves which created four separate rooms. The nursery is 23″ tall x 28″ wide x 22.5″ deep.

I used faux hardwood vinyl as the flooring. When browsing through spring fabric I was inspired by this blue floral and decided it would be my “wallpaper”. I used ModPodge to adhere it to the walls. The hubs cut down some really thin plywood for wall panels and trim for crown and base. I chose a light beige for the paint color and also used it to paint some dollar store picture frames to match. I chose some nursery prints that worked with my color scheme and sized them to fit the frames.

The hubs made wooden shelves for me (because he’s awesome!) and added pegs to the largest one. I am hoping to hang an outfit or two from them once I expand the babies’ wardrobe. On the shelves are baby wipes, bottles and faux books. I created tiny versions of children’s books choosing titles that either I or my kids loved when we were young.

The blue rug is a woven placemat that was in my stash and ended up being a close match to the fabric color. I also covered the crib mattress with the wall fabric to coordinate. I purchased the dollhouse shaped shelf at Target, painted it pink and filled it with books and toys. The four vehicles were Christmas tree ornaments that worked perfectly as tiny toys after I snipped off the hangers. The barn and cabin in the back are also tree ornaments that I thought made great toys!

Every nursery needs stuffed animals so I stole some from other dolls around the room!😉 The penguin and walrus are from Mia’s (Girl of the Year 2007) bedroom set and the kangaroo is the baby from the kangaroo set in Kira’s (Girl of the Year 2021) collection.

I had originally crafted a jewelry box  to be a changing table/cabinet but it felt too large in the space. I decided to use this pretty scroll table (originally a wall shelf) instead. I wanted some form of basket or crate and went with this one from my craft closet. I painted it pink and it fits perfectly under the table to hold extra blankets and diapers. Changing pads that came with the AG sets stand in the space beside the box.

I look forward to creating scenes in this room as different Truly Me dolls try their turn at babysitting. Brooklyn (Truly Me 22) is a great babysitter but changing diapers is not really her thing!😉 Watching four babies can be overwhelming!
