Dandridge House Dolls

   My version of Kirsten’s Cabin holds a special place in my heart. It was the very first dollhouse room that I ever created. I made mistakes and learned from this room and would like to change somethings eventually, but as a whole I still love it. Especially decorated for Christmas! To begin preparing the cabin for Christmas,  I started with a large, more rustic looking tree, in hopes that it would seem more “natural”. Because of the tree’s size, I did remove the bed for the Christmas season. The tree is decorated with burlap ornaments and the garland is made of cinnamon sticks, small pine cones and faux berries. Traditionally, Swedish families would decorate for Christmas using straw to remind themselves that Jesus was born in a manger. I wanted to make straw ornaments for the tree but ran out of time this season. Maybe next year. 😉 The tree topper is just a large ornament. I use Truly Me 74 to be Kirsten’s big brother Lars.

I changed out the window scenes to something wintry. The glowing lamp is from Addy’s collection. The red dish is a Christmas ornament from Target and so is the brown jug and kettle. The two red lanterns were also Christmas ornaments that I purchased from Wal-Mart. They all just seemed to work in the cabin.

I bought the garland strips in a package of 12 at the dollar store. I placed one on each shelf to add warmth and a sense of Christmas. On the back wall, I placed four of the smallest Command hooks I could find and covered them with garland and an antler ornament. (An 1800s cabin is sure to have a set of antlers. 😉) I hung four stockings I found in the Christmas crafts section at Hobby Lobby on the hooks. One for each Larson child: Lars, Kirsten, Peter and baby Britta. The plaid backpack was an ornament,  and is perfect for Lars to carry when he goes trapping.

The table runner is a tea towel and I found the copper mugs at Pier 1. All of the food is handmade from polymer clay. Cousin Anna comes to show Kirsten the new toy she received for Christmas.
